On a wet and blustry Saturday morning , after a long winter of hibernation, saw the re-emergence of over twenty dedicated track worshippers, some familiar faces and some new faces, to the hallowed tarmac of Sundrive Velodrome.

Thanks to the dedication of Hugh Byrne and John Coates all rental bikes and equipment were in tip-top shape, ready for another busy season ahead.

There was a great atmosphere, despite the inclement weather conditions, and everyone was raring to see what lead coaches, Orla and Eddie had in store for the morning’s session.

The session began with some warmup laps to get us familiar with riding in pairs and also to shock our dormant track legs back into life.
Next on the menu was a series of slow starts leading into 100 and 200 metres sprints in groups of three and four.
Following on from this shock to the nervous system, Orla got us into 2 groups to work on a skills drill, to practice our spatial awareness by weaving in and out of gaps.
The final two tasks were pursuit efforts for 4 laps and a mock race on the whistle.
Thanks to Orla and Eddie for their time and to everyone who braved the intermittent light showers of rain and the strong winds.

Following on from the senior session, the youth session for U12 and U14 riders was merged with the afternoon accreditation session which saw 6 new riders in attendance.
See you all next Saturday.
