Final Event Saturday 12th August
Eamonn Ceannt Stadium
Report Final Round :- The 2017 sprinters league came to a conclusion last night with a record turnout of 18 riders taking to the start line. Last night saw Jim Sullivan from Brixton cc compete in the league. We plan on expanding this concept next year with riders from Sundrive attending the Herne Hill league. More details on this in due course. Back to the racing. An entertaining evening of racing saw newly crowned National Keirin Champion Tony Mairs dominate the nights proceedings. Setting his stall out with a remarkable 11.27 secs for the 200m, Tony went on to win all his match sprints, although pushed closely by rising star Rob Deegan. Race of the night was the dead heat between Rob Deegan and Jim Sullivan. With Jim earlier providing a master class in how to control the track in a 3 up with Tony and Rob. Darragh Zaidan showed he’s coming into form ahead of his defence of his National Pursuit Title when winning a few match sprints. A personal best on the night for Eddie Lynch saw Eddie break 13 secs for the first. While Tony Mairs amassed the most points on the night with 30 points it wasn’t enough to overhaul Rob Murphy who ran out overall winner of the league. Rob finished out with a total of 163 points which put him 8 clear of Tony with Rob Deegan in 3rd spot on 145.5 points. In fourth place and first lady was Autumn Collins with 135.5 points. Anne Coleman in 9th place with 99 points was 2nd lady. Special mention to Olivia Cannon our youngest competitor who also compiled the results on the night after completing her 200m tt. A total of 40 riders competed in the league. The leading riders will now travel to the UK to compete at a UK sprint meet this Autumn. More details to follow. Finally, a bug thanks to all those that helped out, with special mention for Hugh Byrne, Ger Ivory and Colm O’ Cuinneagain .
Report Round 6 : Another good turnout today at round 6 of the sprinters league. Anne Coleman lead the way with 47 points followed closely by Paul O’ Connell (I want to be like you when I grow up!), Eddie Lynch and Aisling Conlan. The final two races of the night saw a magnificent tussle between Aisling, Paul and Anne. Photo finish both times. Overall, Robert Murphy has moved to the top of the leader board with 148 points, with Tony Mairs moving into joint second with the absent Robert Deegan. Autumn Collins is leading lady in 5th spot with Anne Coleman in 8th. Eddie Lynch also moved into the top 10 today. The final round will be on August 12th and will see James Sullivan from Brixton CC in London race in what will be the final outing before the Nationals. We felt that the addition of an outside presence might just make things more interesting. Anyone planning on riding the Nationals will hopefully target this as their last competitive outing ahead of the Nationals.
Report Round 5 : What a super day’s racing today. Flying 200, Match Sprints2 Up Team Sprint and the riders swap positions with event marked on how close the differential was between the two rides.and finishing with the ever popular 1 lap h/cap! Oisin Hogan & Robert Deegan , posted times a mere .06sec differential between when Rob did leg 1 and when Oisin lead out, although just like the Lions today they had to settle for a draw as the pairing of Anne Coleman matched their differential. Fastest pair of the day went to Arthur Taggart and Tony Mairs (each using one of my wheels) posting a time of 32.62 for the Standing Start 460m lap!
Tany Mairs was fastest 200 of the day with 11.52 with Arthur posting 11.82 on an 88 inch gear.
Move of the Day went to Robert Deegan as he tried to replicate the photo above when he went over the top on Tony on the narrowest of narrow sides as Tony looked for him underneath
Super rides too from Aisling and Anne in the H/caps and Paul O’Connell – an absolute legend.
Thank you to to Marc O’Marc O Brien for helping me make up the rules, and Eddie Lynch for keeping ‘track’ of everything on the results and Eoin McCahill for back up timing.
Report Round 4 : Great turnout for round 4 with something different this week. A focus on aspects of the Team Sprint with Standing Start 250m, Flying 500 in pairs, and finally Team sprint itself, and all rounded off with the ever popular 1 Lap handicap!! Big changes in the overall table. Robert Deegan now heads the league on 98 points after collecting 49 points tonight. Robert Murphy moves into second on 91 points and Thomas Kabs is 3rd on 87 points. Autumn Collins is leading lady and 4th overall 85.5 points. Oisin Hogan and Tony Mairs were the highest points scorers tonight on 53 points each with Liam Collins next up on 52 points. Thanks to everyone who turned out to help and race. Made for a great nights racing. All to play for as move onto round 5.
Report Round 3: Another good turn out today for round 3 of the sprinters league. Fastest 200m TT was Oisin Hogan with 12.53. Highest points scorer on the night was Daniel McIlroy who scored 30 points, 12 of which were for his fantastic lunge to win the 500m handicap by a tyre from league debutant Anne Coleman who also scored 19 points on the night. Great to see Susie Mitchell back in action and handing out some lessons in the process of winning 20 points on the night (less than 10 weeks after the birth of her second child). In the overall league standings Autumn Collins moved into 2nd place overall just 1.5 points behind series leader Andrew Teggart with Thomas Kabs a close 3rd.
Sprinters League : The Sprinters League will take place at the Sundrive Velodrome commencing on April 1st with events every 3 weeks approximately. The aim is to give sprint focused riders some good quality sprint racing and a chance to prepare for major sprint events such as the National Championships, Masters Championships etc.
Men’s Tournament Structure for each round
It will start with half an hour on track warm up, then a 200m time trial to see riders and split them into A, B and C sprint draws. The top 20 riders from the a 200m qualifying time trial will enter the sprint draw, there will be consolation races for other riders. If time allows there will also be an additional Sprint event (Team Sprint, Keirin, Kilo).
There will be a women’s sprint league with separate races at every round. As we are less sure on numbers the format of this is flexible dependant on the number of entries. All riders will get at least a qualifying time trial and 2 sprint rounds. You may also get Keirin’s, 500m TTs and Team Sprints.
