Event Format

NextGen Youth Omnium 2026 will use a four-discipline omnium format. Each rider will contest the following events within their age category:

1. Scratch Race – Mass start race. First rider across the line wins.

2. Tempo Race – After the first lap, 1 point is awarded to the 1st rider across the line each lap. If riders are tied on points, the position across the line in the final lap will result in their finishing position.

3. Elimination Race – The last rider across the line every lap is removed until one rider remains.

4. Points Race – Sprint points are awarded throughout the race, with double points on the last lap, a rider(s) who laps the main bunch is awarded 20 points. Final points decides the omnium standings.

Boys and girls will race together within each category.

Indicative Race Distances

Final lap counts may be adjusted once entry numbers are confirmed. The following structure should be used as the working guide:

The age and ability will be a combined factor to the group the athlete races in. This is to try keep the racing fair and enjoyable.

Omnium Scoring

The event will use an omnium points system based on finishing positions across the four races. The first three races award placement points, and the final points race decides the overall standings with sprint points and lap gains added to the total.

  • For the first three events, riders score based on finishing place in their race. A recommended scale is 40 points for 1st, 38 for 2nd, 36 for 3rd, then continuing downward by 2 points per placing.
