BANNAN WINS CYCLEWAYS TRACK LEAGUE 2006 |

After fourteen rounds of a very hotly contested Cycleways Track League 2006, Keith Bannan (MyHome.ie/Cycleways) secured his 1st place overall with a fine performance during the final Round last Wednesday. Newcomer, Niall Jenkins (Bray Wheelers) has also excelled on the Track this year to take a very well-deserved 2nd place. In 3rd place overall, Greg May (DCU CC) has demonstrated total dedication to the Track and will hopefully continue his good form during the Winter Track League in Manchester.
Leading lady, Kate Rudd (MyHome.ie/Cycleways) retained a very impressive 4th place overall, especially considering she mainly raced against the men. Another debutante to the Track, Ger Ivory (Bray Wheelers) secured 5th place overall and 1st place in the vets category despite racing mainly against the senior men.
Youth rider, Francis Newton (Usher IRC) takes 1st place in the underage category and our younger riders, Caoimhe & Ailbhe Ivory (Bray Wheelers), Ciara & Daragh Long (Orwell Wheelers / Dundrum Town Centre), Enda & Fintan Ryan (Sorrento CC) and Philip Newton (Usher IRC) have also been stars of the Track this year.
Many of the riders from the League will be competing in the UCI World Masters Track Championships in Manchester from 11th-17th September and we wish them all the best of luck in their endeavors to secure an Irish medal or two or three…!
Trophies/prizes for all categories will be presented after friendly fun racing today 23rd August 2006 at the Track, Eamonn Ceannt Park, Sundrive Road, with sign-on from 6.30pm for racing at 7pm sharp, weather permitting. There will also be friendly racing on Wednesday 30th August 2006, which is sadly also the final formal Track day of the season. So be sure to bring along family and friends to cheer you on and children with their own bikes are especially welcome.
With over 80 riders including seniors and youths participating in the Cycleways Track League and numerous other riders passing accreditation, this has been the most successful year in the history of the Track in Ireland. The Track Commission wishes to thank everyone who helped out and loyally supported the Track throughout the year and hope to see you back next season starting in May next year.
Riders will be kept informed of any trips to Manchester Velodrome and the Revolution Series throughout the Winter and Spring months and ongoing training at the Track can be arranged with the Track Commission. Other Track News:
Owing to the disruptions caused by the rain last weekend, the remaining events from the Terry Dolan National Track Championships 2006, being the Junior Sprint Event and Senior Men’s Sprint Final will take place this Saturday 26th August 2006 at the Track, Eamonn Ceannt Park, Sundrive Road at 10am and promises to be a nail-bitingly exciting finale to the Championships. Prize-giving arrangements have yet to be determined but it is most likely that medals and jumpers will be presented at the Cycling Ireland Dinner and Champions night on Saturday 7th October 2006 and prizes will be sent on to those who won the very successful demonstration events in the Vets and Tandem categories.
This will be followed by the 2nd and final round of the Interprovincial Youth Track League from 12pm, bringing together young riders from the four provinces and affording them invaluable Track racing experience and skills development.
